St Albans

Wheathampstead

Redbourn
Redbourn, Flamstead and the surrounding villages in the western part of the St Albans district. Home visit physiotherapy for stroke, neuro and elderly rehab.
London Colney
London Colney, Napsbury Park and the streets along the A414 corridor towards Colney Heath and Shenley. Minutes from Sheryll's St Albans base.
Park Street

Hatfield

Welwyn Garden City

The County
Hertfordshire is covered by two different NHS trusts.
Which one you get depends on where in the county you are — and almost nobody is told this at discharge.
West Hertfordshire
Community neurological rehabilitation and the Integrated Community Stroke Service are delivered by Central London Community Healthcare NHS Trust, working with West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals. The name surprises people — it is a London trust, but its Hertfordshire neighbourhood teams cover Watford and Three Rivers, St Albans and Harpenden, Hertsmere, and Dacorum, which is the Hemel Hempstead area.
The community neuro service is for ages 16 and over and runs Monday to Friday. It publishes response targets of two working days for urgent referrals and six weeks for routine ones. The stroke service runs seven days a week, with an early supported discharge response target of 24 hours. Referrals go through a single point of access on 0300 020 0656.
East and North Hertfordshire
The community stroke service here is run by Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust. It is for adults of 18 and over, treats people at home or in clinics and groups, and accepts referrals from hospitals and GPs — and also directly from patients and families, which is not widely known.
Two details matter more than they look. It takes referrals up to six months after the stroke, and eligibility follows where your GP is registered, not where you live. If you moved, or kept a surgery in the town you left, the trust that covers you may not be the one you would expect.
Sheryll works on both sides of that boundary, which is unusual — most of her towns sit in the west, while Hatfield and Welwyn Garden City fall to the east. It means she is used to explaining which service applies to you, and to writing to whichever team is involved.
None of this is a reason to go private. Where an NHS team is treating you, that is the right thing to be using, and Sheryll will work alongside it rather than duplicate it. Private physiotherapy earns its place in the spaces around it: while a routine referral is still in progress, after a stroke service's six-month window has closed, or when there are goals left that the NHS episode was not commissioned to carry on with.

All of Sheryll's physiotherapy is delivered at your home. There is no additional travel charge for any location within the coverage area listed above.
She will work in your living room, bedroom, garden or any space suitable for treatment, and brings all the necessary equipment.
If you are unsure whether your address is covered, call or send an enquiry. She would rather tell you directly than have you guess — and if you are outside the area, she will say so plainly rather than stretch to reach you.

Do you cover the whole of Hertfordshire?
No. Sheryll covers ten towns in the middle of the county — St Albans, Harpenden, Wheathampstead, Redbourn, London Colney, Park Street, Hatfield, Welwyn Garden City, selected parts of Hemel Hempstead and Watford. Hertfordshire is a big county and claiming all of it would mean turning people away after they had got their hopes up. If you are outside that area, call anyway and she will point you somewhere useful.
Which NHS trust provides community stroke rehabilitation in Hertfordshire?
It depends which side of the county you are on. In west Hertfordshire it is Central London Community Healthcare NHS Trust, working with West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals. In east and north Hertfordshire it is Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust. Eligibility for the east and north service follows where your GP is registered rather than where you live, which catches people out.
Can I see a private physiotherapist while I am under an NHS neuro team?
Yes, and many people do. Sheryll will work alongside an NHS team rather than duplicate what it is doing, and with your consent she will write to them so everyone is pulling in the same direction. If an NHS service is already meeting your goals, she will say so.
What happens when NHS stroke rehabilitation comes to an end?
NHS rehabilitation is commissioned as an episode with a defined end, not as something open-ended — the east and north Hertfordshire stroke service, for example, takes referrals up to six months after the stroke. Recovery does not stop on that date. This is the point at which private physiotherapy is most often worth considering, because the goals that are left are usually the slow ones: confidence, walking further, managing stairs, getting outside again.
