Coverage

Where we visit in Welwyn Garden City.

Welwyn Garden City including Panshanger, Haldens, Peartree, Handside and Sherrards, along with Welwyn village, Digswell, Oaklands and Ayot St Peter.

Welwyn Garden City is the largest town we cover outside St Albans, and it has its own hospital — which makes the gap in community rehabilitation after discharge more surprising to families here than it is elsewhere.

Postcodes: AL7 and AL8. There is no travel charge anywhere in our standard coverage area.

Local NHS services

Coming home from hospital in Welwyn Garden City.

The New QEII Hospital is in the town, run by East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust. It provides outpatient clinics, diagnostics and blood tests, and an urgent treatment centre open every day.

It does not have an A&E department. Emergency admissions go to the Lister Hospital in Stevenage, and that is where a discharge home will usually come from.

Having a hospital in town leads people to assume rehabilitation will follow automatically once they are home. The New QEII does not run inpatient wards in the way the old hospital did, so the physiotherapy that follows discharge is a community service with its own waiting list.

Hospital and trust arrangements change. This describes the position as at August 2026 and is offered as general orientation, not as advice about your own care — your GP or hospital team can confirm what applies to you.

How we help

What we are usually called about.

We are a home-visit practice, so everything happens in your own front room, on your own stairs, with your own furniture. That is not a compromise on clinic-based treatment — for balance, walking and falls it is the more useful setting.

Questions we are asked about Welwyn Garden City.

Do you cover Welwyn village and Digswell as well as the Garden City?

Yes, along with Oaklands, Panshanger, Haldens and Ayot St Peter. There is no travel charge.

The New QEII is round the corner. Why would we need a home visit?

The New QEII runs outpatient clinics and urgent treatment rather than inpatient rehabilitation. Getting to an outpatient appointment is also the hard part for exactly the people who most need physiotherapy — if walking and balance are the problem, the journey is the barrier.

How does this fit with the NHS community team?

Alongside, not instead of. Private physiotherapy does not remove your NHS entitlement or take you off a waiting list. When the community team starts properly, most families reduce or stop, and that is the intended outcome.

Working with the NHS

Alongside, not instead of.

Using private physiotherapy does not remove your NHS entitlement and does not take you off an NHS waiting list. You keep your place.

With your consent we share our assessment and programme with your community team, GP or consultant, so they inherit a measured baseline rather than starting from a blank page.

When NHS input starts properly, most families reduce or stop. That is the intended outcome, and we will tell you when we think you have reached it.
